The young church in Thessalonica was in many ways the poster boy of New Testament churches: They believed the gospel with full conviction.
Their lives pleased God. They were active in mission. They lived lives of faith, love and hope in Jesus’ return.
But this was also a church under pressure.
They faced pressure from a hostile world. Some also had doubts about their new found faith. 1 Thessalonians is about how Paul strengthens this under-pressure church and encourages them to live to please God more and more so that they may be blameless on the day Jesus returns.
